Canchales and Esparragalejo Reservoirs

We can visit the Esparragalejo reservoir, circling it slowly, then we can wander over to the reservoir of Canchales, which houses an astonishing number of water birds, herons and waders. This lake has been classified as a Zone of Special Protection of Birds (ZEPA) and also has the catagory of Internationaly Important Wetland. In winter it is worth noting the high concentrations of waterfowl, which number over 10.000. Both places are close to Mérida.
